"Soo...What is your New Year's Resolution?"
"What's one thing new you want to do this 2009?"
Everyone makes resolutions when the New Year hops around. Whether you actually live up to them is another story. We make these lists hoping to become better people. They are our little personal reminders, usually kept secret.
Although I feel pretty good about 2008, my New Year’s resolution for 2009 will focus more on:
1. To eat more healthily, sleep at decent hours, and get more exercise.
2. Live life to the fullest and face my fears!
3. To worry less, live life one day at a time, read more books, write more, watch less TV and.. study hard.!
4. I always promise myself that I will stay happy and hopeful no matter what. And though nobody is spared from the occasional bad day, I think I've been successful at keeping this promise.
5. Last year, my resolution was to do as many things I could for the first time. This year, I'm going to get things done. :D Here's to a more proactive me!
"Now, I've done listing my first 5 New Year's resolution. What's yours?"

New year is a new beginning, we welcome the new year 2Oo9 full of hope for the better year. For me this is the happiest time of the year because we got a chance to celebrate it with our whole family.
Most Filipinos observed beliefs and practices that has been passed from time to time. Each practice would differ from one community to another.
But let me share some things that I know and follow in my 19 years of life living here in Philippines together with my family.
1. The very first thing I know is to gather 13 round variety of fruits. For stocking on round fruits is expected to usher in a well-rounded year of prosperity for the household.

2. Prepare coins for the entire family's pocket. It has been our tradition that if we placed coins in our pockets and will ring these at the coming of the New Year believing that this practice would bring in money in our pockets all throughout the year.

3. Abundance of food in the dining table. It is belief that there will be abundance of food for the rest of the year. Don't forget to eat some sticky food like, kalamay (a kind of rice cake) or biko (rice cake)or suman (sweet steamed rice). It is belief that sweet and sticky food when eaten on the first minute of the year brings prosperity.
-I'm having a hard time searching for english terms of this foods. *sigh*

4. Ask the children in your home to jump. Its a belief that children who jump will make them taller. At my age I still jump together with my Big Brothers. lols!
- If there would be a contest who's the highest jumper for the new year, then Ate C would probably win! lols!

and lastly...

5. Welcome the New year with loud and safe noise.! The noise and the firecrackers is believed to drive away the devil spirit and make the New year bountiful and blessed.

These New Year beliefs and practices are meaningless in the Christian context. It is better to rely on one's hard work, perseverance and faith in God to make the coming year a well rounded one,. Happy New Year to all of us! Here comes another year to start anew.
Wishing you all not only happiness but a bountiful year as well. Cheers!

1. My name is Ariane. "The name Ariane is a baby girls name. The name Ariane comes from the French origin. In French The meaning of the name Ariane is: Very holy. Variant of the Greek Mythological Ariadne, who aided Theseus to escape from the Cretan labyrinth."- wikipedia 2. On 1989, I was named by my father whom at that time watched the news about the successful launch of a European civilian expendable launch vehicles for space launch use, the Ariane 4 - part of the Ariane Rocket family. -No wonder why I've always dreamed to be an astronaut when I was young. 3. On the contrary, my mother loves avon products, which coincidentally she loves the scent of Ariane perfume. For her the perfume is so feminine and pure. -Well, I admit it's true. 4. When I was in my childhood days, I always have buddies or friends named like mine. But in different spelling. It would usually be 'Arriane' or 'Arianne' or worse 'Aryan' 5. When I was in my elementary days, I hated my name because it's too short unlike my classmates who have soo many names. For ex. Maria Theresa Anne or Mary Grace Joy. 6. One day at school, I tried to fool my 1st grader teacher. I wrote the name Mary Grace on my test paper. When the teacher checked our papers he asked who the hell is Mary Grace. Then I raised my hand and said 'Me Sir!'. He then asked me why did I do that. I simply answered 'Because I envy the name of my sister and I just love the name of mother Mary'. and the room burst with laughters... 7. When I graduated in elementary, my name received lots of academic awards since I entered in that school. 8. As I entered in high school, my name was not that famous until I joined a lot of org. in our school. 9. I had a friend in hs which was always revising my name and calling me 'yanix' because she hated the name 'Ariane'. How awful...I don't know what's with her for hating my precious name. 10. and...Everybody oh almost everybody in the classroom and my friends in school even my teacher calls me 'yanix'. - where my nickname was born. 11. As I entered in College, I love to introduce to lots of people by using my precious name. But people don't usually remember names so I just only gave my nickname. 12. Also in college, I have my own set of friends and I'm very happy that we cherish each others name. Thus, making me appreciate more about my name. 13. Whatever our name is, its history and meaning, the most important thing is that it defines our uniqueness as an individual, what do we love to do and do it for our own good. Having a clear goal in mind and do everything we can to achieve it. And most important of all ...we must know our real purpose why we're living at this very moment. Have a happy wEekend! |

The christening of a baby is a great cause for celebration as the church welcomes in a new member of the family.
On this day, I had the privilege to photograph the christening of a special young man. Some of you may know him from a post featured on my blog. His name is AJ and he is truly a man of God - at 3 yrs. of age. This Sunday morning, my family and the family of AJ's mom gathered for a special ceremony at St. Nicolas chapel somewhere here in our place and it was beautiful though it was a 'Mass Baptism ceremony'. The laughter, love, and joy was overflowing from the moment the ceremony started and it never stopped pouring out of the hearts of everyone there.
The father(my elder brother A) asked me to photograph the ceremony but I got a little tired and captured only few images of the entire day. So, here’s a few favorites that I thought you would enjoy. Have a blessed and empowered week and remember to never stop having faith to Him.
Our little buddy getting christened.

At the reception
They 'murdered' our family name.. It should be 'GOMEZ! not GomeSSSS *smug*

Proud grandparents. My father (beside my 'tower' brother) is very happy..
At the end of the day, we were very happy and that moment is memorable for us and to our lil prince AJ...
oOps! I would also like to thank the presence of my gOod buds/pals/friends (H, L, N) for coming around. They add color to this wonderful day. It was really fun having them!

Aah, Christmas time...!
The air is filled with merry tunes, cool breeze, happiness, and love once again. And what’s
more satisfying than listening to children's Christmas carols, tasting Mom’s favorite dishes
and delicacies (though my mother is not here with us in the Philippines) , or shopping for the perfect gifts for the perfect people?
Christmas is one of my all time favorite Holidays! It’s the season where we get to spend
quality time with our loved ones and friends. These days, we get to take a break from loads
of nerve-wracking homework, buy new sets of clothes, shoes, and stuff! Just writing in our
long Christmas wish list gives us a sense of fulfillment. It may sound materialistic, but we
can’t help it. After all, what fun it brings receiving a gift from someone close to us? Who
wouldn’t agree? *wink*
In the Philippines, Christmas season begins on the 16th of December and ends on the first Sunday of January which is the Feast of the Epiphany (The Three Kings). It is quite different from the other countries of the world, it is the longest of the Philippine festivities stretching for over 3 weeks. This makes the Filipino Christmas celebration one of the longest Christmas season in the world.
Christmas always brings back memories from childhood. Food is always a part of these memories. Many families have their own food traditions that are recreated every year. This year's Christmas Eve my family would prepare wonderful meals such as hamonada - made especially by our special chef who is my brother, fried chicken, fruit salad, mango float, spaghetti, sinugbang (grilled) fish and pork.
I have the list of our recipes. I really like it! Seems like a child wrote this, but actually it's me...

not all the recipes listed here is cooked...
Each of us in the house is very busy preparing for the Christmas Eve...
Brother J, passed his talent in making yummy spag to me...

Brother M is cooking AJ's favorite - fried chiCken.

Pp and brother J is very busy outside the house...

Though each of us is very busy, our little prince is already bored waiting for the food to be served...
Our food for the Noche Buena.!
Who wants a yummy mango float? I made this.!

or an appetizer like the fruit salad with buko?

Want some yummy smiling spag?

AJ's all time favorite fried chicKen...

This is the Sinugbang pOrk and Fish...

and Christmas would not be extra special without our all time favorite dish - the HAmoNada.!

DeCember 24 and 25, 2008... sPending the yuletide season with my family...Soo sad, my mother, favorite sister and kuya is not here with us in the Philippines...

Christmas Eve is a special time, because it is a reminder of what Christmas is all about – celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
On this Christmas day we spend the day relaxing and eating.
Christmas has always been the happiest time of the year. And let’s all celebrate that
special event of our lives by sharing the joy and spreading the love to our friends, family,
and loved ones.
I wish all my blog friends a joyful, peaceful & prosperous 2009.
